Terms of Service

Last updated 7 August 2026

These are the terms you agree to by using Karana. We have tried to write them in plain English rather than in the usual wall of capital letters. Karana is owned and operated by GridBits LLC, and "we", "us" and "our" in these terms mean GridBits LLC, which is the party you are agreeing with.

What Karana is

Karana is an app for daily Hindu practice: prayers, scripture, guided meditation, an almanac, and daily puzzles. It is a study and practice aid.

Karana is not a religious authority. We explain what traditions say and where they say it. Where a tradition disagrees with itself, which is often, we try to say so rather than pick a side. For what your own family, temple or teacher observes, ask them. We are not a substitute for a priest, a guru, or your grandmother.

Your account

You need an account to save your progress. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, give us an address you actually control, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account.

You must be 13 or older to hold an account. If you are under 18, please use Karana with a parent.

Paid subscriptions

Parts of Karana may require a subscription. If you subscribe:

What you may and may not do

Use Karana for your own practice and study, and share what you learn. Please do not:

The scriptures themselves are nobody's property and are thousands of years old. Our translations, explanations, narration, artwork and puzzles are ours, and they are what these terms cover.

Accuracy, and what to do when we get it wrong

We work hard on accuracy, cite sources, and say plainly when a tradition is contested or when a text's attribution is uncertain. We will still get things wrong sometimes. If you find an error, please tell us and we will fix it. We do not promise the content is free of mistakes, and you should not rely on Karana alone for a ritual that matters to you.

Things we do not promise

Karana is provided as it is. We do not guarantee it will always be available, that every feature will work on every device, or that it will never lose data. Some of what Karana stores lives only on your own device, and clearing your browser or deleting the app erases it permanently, so keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Karana.

Ending things

You can stop using Karana whenever you like and ask us to delete your account, and we will. We may suspend an account that is being used to harm the service or other people, and we will tell you why.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
