You can delete your Karana account yourself, at any time, and you do not need to ask us or install anything to do it. It is immediate and it is permanent.
Open Karana, go to your profile, and choose Delete account. If you do not have the app, or no longer have the phone you installed it on, sign in at karana-two.vercel.app in any browser and do exactly the same thing. It is the same account and the same button.
What is deleted
Everything we hold that is yours, in one operation:
- Your sign-in identity, so the email address is free to be used again.
- Your name, username, chosen profile picture, language and practice goal.
- Your streak and how far through each journey and lesson you are.
- Your saved materials and your daily records.
- Your subscription record on our side.
If any part of that fails, you are told so and nothing is reported as deleted that was not. We would rather show you an error than a reassurance.
Deleting only some of it, and keeping your account
You do not have to destroy your account to get a clean slate. In Karana, open your profile, then Settings, then Delete some of my data, and choose what goes:
- Your practice history: your streak, your daily records, and how far you are through every journey and lesson. Your account, your name and your settings stay exactly as they are.
- Your saved items: everything you have bookmarked. Nothing else is touched.
Either one is immediate and permanent, and neither affects your sign-in or your subscription. This is the option to use if you simply want to begin the practice again from the start.
What was never ours to delete
Some of what Karana holds is written only to your own device and is never transmitted to us: your journal, your birth details, your personal calendar including any family remembrances you added, your puzzle results, and your theme and reminder preferences. Deleting your account does not reach those, because we never had them. Deleting the app, or clearing your browser data, erases them. Signing out erases them too.
If you have a paid subscription
Deleting your Karana account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google, because those are held by them and not by us, and we are not able to cancel them on your behalf. Cancel it first:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Android: the Google Play app, then Subscriptions.
- Subscribed on the web: cancel from your Karana account before deleting it, or write to us and we will do it.
You keep what you have paid for until the end of the period you have already paid for.
How long it takes
The deletion runs at once and your account stops existing immediately. Encrypted infrastructure backups roll off within 30 days, after which no copy remains anywhere.
If you cannot sign in
If you have lost access to the email address on the account and cannot reach the button, write to ashmith@getkarana.org from any address and tell us which account it is. We will verify what we can and delete it within 30 days.
